Not to change the injectors. To clean them out= flush them. A shop will diconnect the fuel rail under the hood & hook up a injector cleaning machine to your fuel rail & then it'll be powered by your battery & then he'll unplug the enortha switch, so your car won't be pumping fuel out. It'll run for 15-20 minutes on the cleaning solution. Thats the best way to clean your injectors. You can get injector cleaner to add to your fuel tank when you fill up.

Unless your car exhibits real driveability problems (in which case take it to the dealer), it's extremely unlikely you have a fuel injector problem. Injectors in a DI engine are a different breed - you really don't want the corner mechanic fiddling with them. Just use a major brand gasoline and leave them alone.

If you're wondering about mileage try this: find a nice level stretch of highway or interstate on a day that's no too windy, set the cruise control to 60 and reset the trip computer's mpg. After 4 or 5 miles you should be in the high 30s. If you are, your car is just fine.

I didnt mean replace i meant clean. =0. And i know for a fact i dont have bad driving habits...i mean before this i had a ford fiesta and i was getting 43mpg, on the same route as i drive now. Which aims me to believe that there's really not something right going on here. Ive reset the average MPG on the highway, going 55mph and it stayed a consistent 28.3. And yeah, im not looking to get a prius or some kind of ecobox car, but i do expect there car to get close to the sticker mpgs....

Seems really unlikely the average mpg would be unchanged. You do know the reset button has to be held in for about 5 seconds to work, right?

I wonder if the mpg ratings on foreign cars are different from domestic?
Does the EPA still determine the ratings for those too?
Does the car company have any say in how conservative or non-conservative the ratings are?

I only ask because I agree i'm shocked at how non-realistic the mpg ratings are on this car. don't get me wrong I still LOVE my new focus, but even with all greens on the EcoMode eval, its still kinda not close.

Compare that with my 2000 VW Jetta that was rated for 30mpg and when I sold it it had 207,000 miles on it and was getting 28mpg combined!
Plus my 1990 BMW 535i, which had a thirsty 3.5L straight 6, was rated for 17mpg combined and I regularly got 18-19.

So are German cars rated more conservatively or is Ford over-rating the focus?

kind of not getting it.

I can never hit the rated specs for mine, tho Canadian standards have been proven to be impossible to perform real world. The sticker specs are BS. However

my car computer is currently saying i'm doing 10.2 litres per. Mind you, i don't drive super frugal in the city, but the city doesn't allow me to. But even when i tried my hardest, i could never match the 7.8 L city number.

However, on the highway, doing between 110-130km/h, and using speed down hills, letting off a bit up hills after momentum, drafting big trucks and following on their bumpers at 110 km/h... i actually managed to hit 6.0 L on a round trip from Toronto to north of Guelph and back to Toronto. 214 km Total.

But it's gone up ever since then in the city.

My speed leaf looks lovely. My anticipation leaf looks dead.

What mpg are you getting and where do you live? I say that the mpg listed on the window sticker of the Focus is pretty accurate.

I read of some talk that how the numbers are reported changed and it makes them higher. Again for the Focus they seem to be spot on, for the new Impreza, not so much when it has a CVT.

Canadian drivers as a group seem to get noticeably fewer mpg than those of us south of the border in the best of times and as we're in the winter things would tend to be worse.

In addition to stop-and-go cold starts are also a big hitter for fuel economy and it is just plain colder further north.

Take a nice long drive at 100kph or less and use cruise ... if you can avoid stops you should see much better mileage. At that speed on cruise with few stops I'd expect about 37mpg or about 6.35 l/100km.
