Focus Hatchback - Cargo Tray or Carpet Mat?

Will probably order my wife a new SE 5spd Hatch tomorrow, should we get the Cargo Tray or the Carpet Mat for the back?

Will haul normal stuff plus a dog back there, the tray looks to contain spills better but not sure if the lip would help when the seats are folded down.

Opinions?

I have the OEM cargo tray for my sedan -the lip is tall and sturdy enough to stay in its shape if the seats are down. It will definitely contain spills and is great at containing dirt/sand. Very easy to vacuum or take out and dump out.

Get the tray.

link for ford accessories that is highly regarded on this forum; (bought many things from this website, the cargo tray, engine cover, mud flaps, windshield sun shade)

I had made a tray for my last car... and decided to not get one for the Focus. the seats folding down flat is one reason not to get a tray. And using a cardboard box works for me. A box to hold the usual junk works, and i chose one i can flip in the front passenger seat floor if I want the back flat.

I actually have both (I wanted the tray, but the dealer ordered the carpet one by accident first).

I would say get the tray. It works really well and, as others have said, it is super easy to clean. Also, the lip stands up well even if the seats are folded down, but also is flexible enough you don't have to worry about a flat back with the seats down (it will bend down if you need it to).

I honestly don't know what the purpose of the carpet mat is. Only reason I have it is because the dealer screwed up... but it doesn't even seem useful enough to sell!

Cargo tray all the way!! Will save your carpet from any spills and/or dirty doggie paws

One more thought...

The tray is much more flexible than the carpet mat. So it can be a lot easier to roll it up and store it outside of the car should you ever have that need (it actually ships rolled up, so it is perfectly fine to store it this way).

I went with the cargo try. It also matches the OEM winter mats, which I run all year since the SE only comes with front mats otherwise ...

Any recommendations regarding the OEM cargo tray versus WeatherTech?
