Can you have ABS in the front but not the rear?

Just wondering cause I was in the ice the front tires went on ABS but the rear did not.

It's possible to have the ABS not work correctly, but I have never heard of a car with front ABS only, but many have rear-only ABS

Look on top of the knucle, if there is a wire there, you have ABS, that's the sensor. So, just look and see. I would think that you have it, but double check first. If it's there, then you might have a problem.

With the normal brake bias to the front, fronts are a lot more likely to 'lock up" on the ice and have an ABS reaction you can notice. What's going on at the rear is a lot less noticeable, and not as likely to happen at all. Unless you could feel the rear locked up & skidding I wouldn't worry about it not working right.

As elsolo noted, ABS on the rear only has been used on some vehicles (my S-10 P/U is one of them) - ABS on front alone wouldn't be a good idea....

Front only would make back skid out of control. You simply feel the front kick in easier since weight rocks onto the front to make you feel the vibrations easier. If only front were working and not back on 4 wheel systems the system would disable.
