Install Cruise on a 2013 Focus S?
Looking to buy a 2013 and would prefer and SE with 5 speed, but they are hard to come by and the S really has everything I want with the exception of cruise control.
I've done numerous engine swaps including a 99 Explorer 5.0L in my 2000 Ranger with a Mustang T5 manual trans and even put cruise in it which didn't come with it, so I know I can handle it, I'm just wondering if anyone out there has already done it and if so, what kind of cost I'm looking at... Thanks |

With the drive by wire (motorized throttle body) system employed by the Focus the cruise is an internal part (no mechanical link) of the vehicle control.

Look at the Rostra line. Not sure if they will help you or not. I did mine in about two hours. But is a 2006

There are references that say the dealer has to program the cruise to be active within the ECU.
I would certainly want an OEM cruise to be installed IF you are buying new, INSIST that cruise gets added on at the dealership If buying used, ask at service whether cruise can be added after the fact-if they say no then go to a different dealer |

Why not just go to your local dealer and order the car that you want then?

Keep watching accessories.ford.com and see if it pops up for your vehicle. You can also inquire with our parts vendor Village Ford to see when something might be available.

All of the cruise control buttons are locted on steering wheel so that would might have to be swaped. The gas pedal is just a potentiometer now that goes to ECU, the throttle body, fuel injection, cam timming, and ignition timing are controlled from it. As well as speedometer output converted from trans input. Ford has been using a common wiring harness so option instalation is should be easyer. By Dealer of coarse, or programmers of ECUs.

I've seen reports by owners that on the Gen II focus with 'fly by wire" throttle only the proper steering wheel was needed to get factory cruise control on a car that came without it.
However, I haven't seen such reports for the current Gen III as yet. Since you haven't purchased the car yet, the advice to include installation in the purchase deal seems like a good idea. People who already owned an earlier model could try a junkyard wheel at minimal cost to attempt an upgrade, buying a car & hoping the upgrade will work for a feature you really want just seems like a bad idea unless you can confirm what's needed B4 purchase. Luck! Last edited by sailor; 02-20-2013 at 12:11 PM. Reason: Sp. |
