squeaking noise from steering wheel

hi folks,
i had to have my steering column replaced due to a some horrid clunking nosies it was making, anyway just before i had it replaced i started getting squeaking noises from somewhere i couldnt identify, anyway after having the new column the nosie is louder and i can identify where it is, it occurs when i turn the wheel either direction very slowly. the noise sounds similar to getting a paper clip and sliding it up and down a black chalk board if you know what i mean, any ideas where this annoying noise could be from? its doing my head in,im going crazy

i have the same problem..
i think it is a ruber or a carpet that is between the column and the firewall...
check it out...

Ford Escapes have this problem too.
In fact, once my car gets back this afternoon or Friday,
we're taking my wife's Escape in for the very problem you're referring to.
I've had such a good experience this first time around with warranty work,
I have no fear now of taking the wife's rig in.
I'll be sure to keep you posted as to what they do to fix the problem.

Damn i have that same problem in mine too! The noise is just about always there but is more prominent in turning either left or right. To me the noise sounds as if wires are arking (sp). Looks like mine is going in the shop...again.

Maybe there is a loose nut behind the wheel?
