manual transmission noise

so I am working on a friends 2005 ZX3 86000. let me start he bought this car knowing that it had bad motor mounts from the person that sold it to him, and that it was loud to drive. so he finally decided to fix whatever is making this noise. we inspected the motor mounts found driver side mount destroyed and the torque arm on the bottom was falling apart passenger side was dirty but in good shape. while inspecting found massive exhaust leak on manifold a broken weld around the runner to #1 and a seperated seam along the underside of manifold. so far we have replaced driver side mount and bottom mount and removed repaired and replaced exhaust manifold.

right now car is still very loud, it is kind of a roaring sound and vibration (it vibrates all the plastic parts of the dash) it makes this sound while reving it up in all gears at all speeds, it also does this standing still in gear or neutral, clutch in or out, and worse under acceleration.

at this point im thinking we need to pull the trans to inspect the clutch and or the trans itself. I used to work a ford dealer and have no fears of doing this or overhauling this trans. it is just that i have never experienced this type of noise and dont want to put forth the effort for something we cant afford to fix.

any comments or thoughts from someone who has experienced or seen this would be great.

When you did the engine mount did you loosen all the mounts then tighten them all back to factory specs or did you leave the passenger mount tight?

we left the passenger mount tight, wasnt broke didnt fix. we did support the engine on the driver side with a block of wood and a jack. why the noise and vibrations are coming from the driver side trans area.

I'd try a mechanic's stethoscope B4 tearing into anything (or the proverbial long screwdriver held to an ear).

Also it's unlikely that the pass. mount is OK. We see many comments on here that it looked OK before inspection after removal ("just fell apart when removed") for example.... So further inspection and a loosening & retorque of mounts with engine located properly might help!

With noise/vibration at all times, narrowing down the source could help.
