In past years, the success of the Ford Focus has paled in comparison to the likes of the Volkswagen Golf, Honda Civic, and others, which are fraught with emotion, character, and spirit.

No offense to owners of '08-11 models, but look at the difference between them and the Mk3 ST. That's a pretty substantial change.

Visually, for sure. But the driving dynamics of a 2010 Coupe for instance is pretty superior to any MK3 save the ST. The MK1 cars even more so, especially the SVT.

The MK1.5 (USMK2) cars don't drive as well as the MK3. I've driven some 2009 Focus SE Sedan, and it pales in comparison to my MK3, let alone an ST.

The 4F27E was also terrible and it would jump into and out of gear lethargically even at speed. The spacing between gears was terrible, and the car handled poorly by comparison to my MK3.

I couldn't wait to get my car back at the end of my time with the us mk2.

I'm sure it was fine compared to a similar vintage corolla as far as driving dynamics, but for quality and driving feel the new cars have the older ones beat massively in my experience.

Of course I'm biased towards the MK3 having owned one.

I owned an 09 SE and a 13 SE. I was faster up the twisties in my MK3 than in the MK2, as well as the car feeling more planted. And that was on a stock tire MK3 VS a performance tire MK2.
