Replacing power steering pump in ZX3

I'm putting a new power steering pump in my 2003 ZX3 with the 2.0 Zetec. The old one worked, but was leaking from the bottom.

On further reading though, I'm worrying that I may also need to replace the high pressure line, as people claim that the internal seal is often damaged upon removal from the old pump.

I was also reading that I need a special tool to install the teflon O ring.

I don't really want to put everything back together, only to have to drain it again to do the line next weekend, so I thought I would see what you guys think.

If all you are trying to fix is a leaky bottom seal on a working pump, then you probably only need this part:

It has the white outer teflon seal and a black inner seal (which you can just make out in the pic). It's held in place by a small wire C-clip in the nut that fits into a machined groove in the ps pipe end, iirc. It's that c-clip you may destroy when you pull things apart. Since the ps line works under very high pressures, I wouldn't want to mess with anything but new parts there.
No special tools required as I recall.
Make sure it's not leaking from the pressure sensor on the side of the pump too; it's a common leak point. (It's where the wire connects to the side of the pump.)

Hmmm, well I already got the new pump and I've got 138k miles on it. Figured it can't hurt right?

My pump doesn't have the sensor on the pump, it's on the line. I remember reading that SVTs had it on the line, and regular zetecs had it on the pump, but mine is on the line. I know it's not an SVT zetec though.

When I read about the tool for the teflon ring, it said it was to install a new ring on the nut, whereas the link has a nut with a new ring already installed.

I guess I'll see what I can do, and if the C-clip looks good, I'll just use what I have.

Well, I couldn't tell where the c-clip was, but everything is back together and seems to be working fine. Did a test drive and I don't see any leaks after it.
