1.8 Zetec cold start issues, where is the ECT sensor?!?
Hello and thank you for taking your time ro read.
I have just bought an old focus off an old chap and after a couple of days of owning i realise I have a cold start issue!! (i still really like it as it is a super clean little thing)
the car is a Focus, Mk1, 1.8 petol, Zetec, W reg, year 2000.
If I leave the car for a good period of time, lets say 5 hours or more it is not easy to start i.e. not right off the button and is a little bit lumpy when it does, give it 30 seconds and all is well just as you would expect.
Restarts are then perfect and take only a small flick of the key??
I have done loads of internet looking and one of the suggestions could be ECT (engine coolant temp) sensor, I am not sure and any advice would be gratfully recieved.
I have been onto the local Ford stealers and they can get me an ECT sensor (in 5 days) for circa £20 so not the end of the world only trouble is i cant find the * * * *!!
Ford said they have looked at their diagram (which in there words is pretty crap) and it is located on the cylinder head - I have have had one technician say its on the top and another say it is on the cylinder head on the left side of the timing belt........?
what i can confirm is that the themostat housing is the blanked off kind so no sensor in there.
I cannot find it in any of these locations the rocker cover only has the spark plugs on it and i cant find anything on the left side of the timing belt???? PELASE HELP!!
any suggestions on the fault and or location of the sensor would be really helpfull as Ford was about as much use as a kick in the eye.
cheers Craig
