Tranny leaking Brake fluid
Hello all! I have had a busy week working on the focus...replaced the Master Slave Cylinder a week ago and bled it and it worked perfect. Replaced both front axles and wheel bearings on the car today. Just noticed a puddle of Brake fluid leaking out of the bottom of the transmission?? WTF?? Everything still functions good....for now....and I haven't noticed a drop in the brake fluid resevoir either....I wipe the bottom of the tranny and then it starts slowing seeping out again.... slave cylinder?? Please help! Thanks!!!

Are you sure it's brake fluid and not tranny fluid? How much fluid did you put back in the tranny after replacing the axles? It's one of three things that it could be. Throwout bearing/slave cylinder leaking, Throwout bearing/slave cylinder input shaft seal leaking, or rear main seal leaking. You need to identify which fluid it is for sure. Though any one of the three will require the trans to be removed to fix. If you do have to remove the trans I highly recommend replacing the clutch at the same time and especially if it's had any fluid leaking onto it.

It's definitely brake/clutch fluid....brand new Mobil 1 synthetic fluid in the tranny now thats pure red...and its not that....
just dont know what to make of it....big puddle but the reservoir remains the same and clutch still feels good.....trying not to leave myself stranded on a 60 mile each way trip to work.... |

Well then it's probably leaking and needs to be replaced which sucks. How much fluid is leaking out of it?

a decent sized puddle.....unfortunately....like i said the reservoir remains the same....does that mean the slave cylinder will fail and then fail to disengage the clutch sometime soon regardless of reservoir level?

well took it for a quick two mile jaunt....still shifting very very good....did excellent clutch drops from 4k too (might as well if it needs a new clutch) and pulled it back in the garage....tranny still slowly dripping clear brake fluid....but its driveable.....for now :(

When you say you replaced the "Master Slave Cylinder" what do you mean?
- Clutch Master Cylinder - Clutch Slave Cylinder - Brake Master Cylinder - Brake Slave cylinder Which one(s) did you replace? Check both the clutch master cylinder reservoir and the brake master cylinder reservoir. |

The level hasn't gone down at all, not even a tiny bit?
