First, thank you all for sharing your experiences and helpful information.

I can certainly understand dealers and salespeople not wanting to waste an hour or two to a non-committed buyer.

I'm 40, with a regular job and my last Ford finance rate was 2.9% on a new 08 Focus. I know rates fluctuate, but would not anticipate any current credit issues.

Two updates. I did receive a Ford "approval" trough email for pre-approved financing by Form Motor Credit for 2x,000.00 on any new vehicle. Unsure of rate.

One dealership, after several calls sent me a price of 20,900 on a 2012 Focus Titanium. Unfortunately they added all rebates / incentives (going to dealer), including Military, which does not apply to me. So after going there, this in fact, was not the price.

That may be true but more importantly the sales person that worked 2-5 hours selling you the car and only makes $100 isn't fair (at least to me).

$20-$50 an hour isn't fair?
What I'm trying to do is save the salesman all that time. Give me some numbers to work with over the internet, it doesn't take three minutes. A couple back and forth, a total of 10 minutes. I'll agree to a price before I step foot in the dealership. Have all the paperwork together, I can be in and out in half an hour.
That $100 turns in to nearly $200/hr. Why is that wrong?

It is wrong because no car sales person sells 3 cars a day every day of the month.

Average car sales person sells 7-9 cars/month. If every customer they sell only makes $100 per car deal how is that fair to pay them $900 month??

My time is certainly worth more than that.

$100 a car doesn't evens me logical sense. There's building overhead, other employee wages, taxes, and such which need to be built into the cost of a sale.

If none of that mattered hamburgers would still cost $0.25!

Thank you "billand" for the pricing information.

I did not intend, and do not want this question to turn into what an employee's time is worth.

I have taken the time to visit dealerships, email dealerships, research online and join an online message board for help buying this specific vehicle. I understand a dealership may not know this, but my intentions are well thought out.

That being said, when I agreed to employment, I knew what the rate of pay was. I wish every salesman sold 3 cars a day! It would be great for their income, our economy and prices across the market! Dealers, consumers and the national economy would all benefit!

I believe they are referring to the sales persons commission, not the total gross....

I avg 8 to 10 cars a month. For me to make a decent living I need to make $500 profit avg on a deal. I'm sorry but if you think $4,000 to $5,000 is too much for "unskilled labor" then you must not have any bills. By the way selling cars is not easy. The stress level day in and day out can be intense.

Also sometimes we do a deal and the guy who we did the deal on doesn't know how to pay his bills and has shit for credit (i've seen pages, and pages of bad credit on YOUNG PEOPLE WITH JOBS)

Also it's not the time that it takes to do a quote that is a problem. It's the opportunity. You see we only get so many chances to turn a potential deal into a deal and we don't want to screw it up send you a quote and another dealer beats us by $100.

Thanks to all for the help and information. It appears my research for a price or idea on pricing is leading to a different direction, which is not my intent.

Thanks again. I will check back if I have any success.
