Ran Over a huge Rock!

Hi everyone! I am having a problem with my 2001 focus sohc se. I ran over a rock the other day (I couldnt avoid it). I straddled it and it scraped under my car. Since then, my car will not accelerate. When I am accelerating from a stop, it sputters and will not go. I have changed the fuel filter and it is still doing the same thing. Another thing that is wrong with it is one of the pully's bearing went out so it is squeaking and the car will not run smooth with the air conditioner on. I think the belt may be slipping but that makes no sense in why it would start acting up after I run over the rock. My dad looked under it and couldnt see any dents or anything. Please help! Thanks!

By coincidence
One of your valve seats might be loose assuming that you have a SPI engine

I hope not! We replaced the cylinder head and one piston last year. I love my car but I think it is just one problem after another lately. The mileage is 98,600.

swap the spi for a zetec, problem solved. that spi motor is no good from what ive heard about them. you can find zetec motors fairly cheap at junkyards

to FF

Most people who have an SPI or have had an SPI will tell you that they are good engines once the valve seat issue is fixed. Sounds like you fixed your valve seat issue last year. I wish I could help more, but don't give up on it yet! Somebody here will have some answers for you

I know you said your dad looked and did not see any dents. But is it possible the exhaust pipe got smashed and is restricting the flow.

Did the catalytic converter get scraped by the rock?

Dad said he didnt see anything wrong under it, but I am sure it got scraped. The rock was trapped under my car a few feet as I was going 50mph. I think we need to put it up on some ramps and get a better look.

The rock may have hit the cat so hard it shattered the interior. So now instead of a honeycomb of material, you have a lot of broken ceramic trash in there blocking the flow.
