Building a head and needing lifters. Where could I buy new lifters?

If doing valve job and needing to re-setup clearances you can also slightly shorten valve tips to maybe avoid some of that. Your call of course.

^huh?

IIRC Ford still sells them.
Otherwise post the sizes you need and as a group we'll see what we have in our parts bins.

Thing is I have no idea what sizes I need. How do you know what size you need?

You pre-set-up the head and measure to find out.

From recent experience, it's pretty time consuming.... and the Ford dealer wants between ~$10 (online) and ~$18 (local) for each new bucket/shim. Measure carefully

Lifters

When I did my "drop in" cams my engine was on the floor and it made it a lot easier. I started by taking the shortest bucket-tappet-lifter and installing the lifter and cam and taking a measurement. I used this and picked a lifter closest to what I needed, installed and re-checked until I had all the lifters set.
