2001 zetec power window fault

Hi guys

My drivers side window has never worked since I got the car a month ago. In both directions the motor engages and the window attempts to move (can be pushed up or down when the switch is engaged) however the motor is not pulling it up or down by itself.

Is this the motor or something more sinister?

Not sure if this is the cas with you, but on my power window, the plastic clips that hold the window to the regulator broke. The motor will run, but the window can be moved manually. Locally, I could not purchase just the clips. I had to go to ebay to get them. Otherwise it is a whole new regulator which is quite pricy compared to a clip. Or two clips for the front window. I think I have replaced all four of mine by now. Just try not to run the window without it moving too much. The cables will jump out of where they wind up, and makes rewinding the regulator much harder. Good luck!

Doesn't matter, you pretty much buy the motor with the regulator anyway. As he says, mostly the cheap plastic window glass holders break, or the plastic ferrules to derail cables. Once cable derailed, the more you work it the more tied up in knots the cable becomes. Made to break easily in case a child gets head caught in window. Lubing the frame runs with silicone spray can make regulators last longer but biggest thing is not hitting all the way top or bottom hard, just a kiss makes regulators last MUCH longer.
