Does no one proofread the Owners guide? - 2013 Ford Focus
Quote:
What's wrong with this, oh let me count the ways: 1. The PowerShift DCT does not have a torque converter and therefore has no torque converter clutch. 2. The torque converter has nothing to do with the fuel injectors being shut off during ADFSO (Aggressive Deceleration Fuel Shutoff). 3. The car slows down due to the engine slowing the wheels, not the brakes.

That's why there has been about 5 revisions for the 2012 Focus and already 2 revision for the newly relased 2013 Escape. It does make you wonder who writes these things, and then why they don't verify with a vehicle before release, step by step the items actually work on the vehicle as they are written.

Instead of the engine combusting fuel to drive the wheels through the transmission when the fuel is shut off the engine is driven by the wheels instead. The engine takes the energy from the wheels to continue to pump air while no fuel is injected into the cylinders. This does cause the car to slow down more aggressively than if the transmission was disconnected from the wheels by depressing the clutch and putting the car into neutral.

Yes, but the engine is not beint driven in reverse by the wheels.
The wheels are driving the engine instead of the engine driving the wheels. |

PowerShift Fuel Efficient Transmission
Your vehicle has been designed to improve fuel economy by reducing fuel usage while coasting or decelerating. When you take your foot off the accelerator pedal and the vehicle begins to slow down, the torque converter clutch locks up and aggressively shuts off fuel flow to the engine while decelerating. This fuel economy benefit may be perceived as a light to medium braking sensation when removing your foot from the accelerator pedal. I find only one thing wrong with this: The Focus does not have a torque converter. Other than that, a torque converter would have to lock up to provide engine braking (and thus a sensation of braking) and DFSO. Undoubtedly the error about the torque converter is a result of copy/paste.

This is what was said/ implied. If you read it as though the engine spins backwards than that was not the implication. Power is flowing in reverse as the engine is absorbing power from the wheels. It doesn't change the direction the engine spins.

it's just poor grammar.. u both are saying the same thing... in reality the engine is not going (being driven) in reverse but the energy the wheels have 'stored up' by rotation is causing the engine to slow down...

Nothing gets proofread anymore. Did you know that so-called 'proofreaders' expect to collect a paycheck for their services!?! The nerve!!
