Possible Focus owner here...

I'm in the market for either a used 2nd or 3rd gen Focus. A brand new 3rd gen isn't going to be reasonable with the budget I have, but finding a used 3rd gen SE sedan w/ a five speed is proving to be annoying. I've test driven a few new SE's with the five speed, they drive wonderfully. Having a manual is a must for my next car, whether it's a 2nd or 3rd gen Focus or anything else. My last two cars were slushboxes and I'm so tired of it.

I have found a few 2nd gen Focus models with manual transmissions that have caught my eye, but I've never had any hands on driving time with them yet.

The SES that has my attention:

Any feedback from 2nd gen owners would be awesome. Pros, cons, quirks, aftermarket, etc. I always end up customizing whatever I own, if I nab a Focus it probably will not remain stock for long.

Definitely looks like a cool bunch you got here, though.

I enjoyed my 2008. Being the first year of that model, it had some quirks, like the center mount radio display not having outside temp and compass direction available, though there were blank spaces for it you could see on the display! Anyway, that was resolved later, it was just a feature that wasn't added yet.

The car was nice, tight, and decently powered. Aftermarket is huge for the second gens, but being an automatic, I didn't sink money into it. Kept my eyes on the prize and got my 2013 the way I wanted it, though, yes, I do pay out the nose for it.

Good luck! Either option is a great choice!

Thanks for the info.

Since having a manual is the main feature I want, that's mainly why that SES I liked caught my attention. Kinda bumming me out not being able to find a used 3rd gen sedan SE w/ a five speed. :/

Nice to know there's a decent aftermarket, wheels and suspension will probably be my main focus at first, dunno if I'd escalate past doing a CAI and catback exhaust for engine mods. I'm not all gungho like I was when I was younger for going fast.

It's tough to go anywhere that quickly in these cars while staying naturally aspirated, so it's good that you're not hell-bent on it.

There's a lot of there for suspension though, especially considering the Focus used the same chassis in the US from 2000-2011. Lots of parts, but not all, are interchangeable.

Probably because I'm 26 and I know what cars are worth making go fast now. Owning a Grand Am for five years really kept me from driving like a dingledouche. lol

But lots of suspension stuffs? Right up my alley. My Pontiac had so much lacking in suspension upgrades. I still love the pile of crap, though. It's been through 105,000 miles with me (172,000 miles on it) and over five years it still muscles along.

Starting to poke around to see what the 2nd gen guys do for mods.

Oh, my Grand Am GT if anyone wants to see:

It'll be sad finally seeing it go. :(
