Hesitation on warm up.

Hi, i have a 2001 1.6 focus and recently it has developed this fault where on warm up it is slightly hesitating at low revs when accelerating gently. if you put your foot down its clears and is fine, also once warmed up the problem disappears. Had a coil problem about a month ago but this feels completely different. Have noticed the fuel consumtion seems to be higher and the exhaust smells quite rich (almost like unburnt fuel).

Any help would be greatly appreciated as have spent a lot on the car in the last year and dont just want to start chucking parts at it randomly.

Cheers steve.

this morning used the car and it occasionally hesitates on acceleration when it is warmed up too. It seems to be at lower speeds but have not been on the motorway this week so not sure of higher speeds.

Was going to clean the MAF sensor but my car does not have one, have read on other posts that it will have a MAP sensor instead. is this correct? if so is it possible to clean it?

Many thanks steve

Maybe try cleaning the Idle Air Control valve?

If it didn't look that dirty just try cleaning it, they can be very expensive. You may also want to try cleaning the MAF with some MAF cleaner (Mass Airflow Sensor cleaner). That may help.

have cleaned the iac with no improvement. my car does,t have a MAF sensor and was assuming from other posts that it has a MAP sensor but not sure where it is and if/how to clean it.

do you think it would be worth cleaning the throttle body?

Cheers for reply, steve

Sure give it a try, couldn't hurt at this point. We don't have MAP sensors on our cars, and only have the 2.0 which is very similar to the 1.8 but we don't even get the 1.6 over here.
