2013 Ford Focus Electric Gets Big Discount

Ford is offering a major discount of up to $10,750 for leases on its 2013 Ford Focus Electric, according to Ford.com.

Ford's vehicle configurator says the discounted price on the Focus Electric is good from now until April 1. The configurator says a customer could get a 36-month lease for $285 a month.

The discount brings the price of the 2013 Ford Focus Electric down to $29,245, including a $795 destination charge.

Ford is also offering a cash discount of $2,000 on the 2013 Ford Focus Electric.

"We are on track with the Focus Electric introduction with plans to expand sales to all 50 states early this year," wrote Wes Sherwood, a Ford spokesman, in response to a query from Edmunds.

"The Focus Electric offers more efficiency, performance, technology and standard equipment than the Nissan Leaf. We also offer a great value as the car can cost less than $30,000 in key markets such as California after tax credits. This is just a few thousand dollars more than a fully loaded gas-powered Focus. We will continue to offer competitive pricing and monitor the market as our competitors discount their vehicles further."

Last week, Nissan cut the price of its 2013 Leaf electric vehicle.

The base 2013 Nissan Leaf S starts at $29,650, including an $850 destination charge, reflecting a $6,400 price cut over the base 2012 Nissan Leaf.

Gas prices, which are a factor in whether consumers turn to alternative-fuel vehicles such as the Focus Electric, have stabilized. The AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report on Friday pegged the average price for a gallon of unleaded gasoline in the U.S. at $3.33 versus $3.37 a year ago.
