Additional Intelligent Access Fobs
Just picked up my 2013 Titanium and I've only driven it 10 km so far but ...
![]() ![]() I've already swapped out the driver's visor for one with Homelink and in the process of getting everything setup I noticed that the IA fobs look identical to those from my Edge. It got me to thinking that if I could program the Focus to recognize one of the Edge fobs then we'd have 4 keys that work on both vehicles and would only have to carry a single key around with us. The manual says I have to go back to the dealership to get additional keys programmed but seeing as how they want over $100 to put on snow tires that were all ready mounted and balanced, I'd rather not have to go back to get gouged for anything not warranty related. Does anybody have the procedure for the Focus? I was hoping that it was similar to the process for the Edge but there are enough differences with the operation of the "Start" button (no accessory mode) and the door locks (single button vs separate lock/unlock functions) between the two vehicles that I couldn't get the process to work with the Focus. Any help appreciated. Thanks |

the answer is no. The keys use the same 80 bit system, but when you program a key to one car, it will not work another. A key programmed to the focus will only work the focus. if you were to successfully program it to the edge, it would no longer work on the focus.
ps, the dealer should have charged $20-$30 to install those tires. If they were already mounted and balanced on wheels, then technically, its just a tire rotation. |

Thanks for the quick response misfire. Not the answer I was hoping for as it never occurred to me that the fobs were anything more than transmitters.
I'm sufficiently PO'd enough at the dealer over trying to gouge me on the tire install that I've decided that this is the 4th and final car I'll ever be buying from them. I drove about 200 yards from the dealer to an automotive chain across the street where they charged me $40. |

hmmmmm.....apparently the IAs aren't as smart as the old fobs because I programmed my fobs to work with my 05 Focus and 00 Taurus at the same time. Seemed like a great idea until I went to pop the trunk the first time and both opened.

Actually that would mean they were smarter, as in they can't be coded to two cars at the same time for precisely that same stupid reason. If it only works with one car you can't possibly screw up and open both at the same time.
