Auto Trans. Broke?
A few days a ago I was crusing along the highway and came up on a tight turn. Having just installed stress/sway bars I wanted to try and take the turn a little faster than usual. When I stepped on the gas my car skipped a little then shifted itself into neutral. After that it would not accelerate. It eventually slipped into gear again and I resumed my driving but a tad slower for fear I broke something. NOW over the past few days I've noticed my car won't take it final gear when I'm driving at higher speeds with higher rpms. It just stays in the second to last gear and rpms just keep rising. Any ideas on what could be wrong? Did I potentially harm my tranny for the worse? Just thought I would ask on here before I had it looked at.

Check the fluid first, have you ever had the fluid changed? And have uou noticed any banging into gear before this happened? It could be a number of tranny issues

I just had my fluids checked and changed about 2000 miles ago. I was getting some rough shifting. But it only ever happened during a downshift and was a rare occurance. I know there are lots of possibilities but never hurts to ask just incase someone else had the same problem once

you did harm it.. time for a replacement..
get a junk yard tranny and pop it in.. the Automatics are TANKS for a tranny they do not go out often.. However they hate to be slammed in and out of gear, or maintaining high RPMs for long times... I wore out my tranny when I bought my car new.. in 8 months the dealer rebuilt it I was getting slipping at 120 mph like it was kicking and and out of gear.. its bad valve and seals in tranny, so if you are not getting into last gear my money is on the Valving system... so don't waste time on rebuild.. just get a low miles tranny.. and flush out the cooler if you have one... and wont hurt to replace the torque converter to a nicer race quality one... like this one... http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=298686

Awful timing for that to happen haha. I do make it into the last gear but only when I obey the speed limit an Dont accelerate to fast. Ill start my tranny shopping ASAP then, thanks for the help.

You really should check the fluid level yourself rather than just scrapping trans mentally. The work done 2000 miles ago could be faulty and fluid could have leaked out to be low. They may not have even filled it up all the way. Simple enough, but some would rather change trans than check oil level...

seriously do check it. you could have developed a leak within the last 2000 miles.
thats normal for it to not hit overdrive for awhile if you're flooring it like I think you are.
