maf sensor

i am currently running my car with out a maf sensor because of my cai is that a bad thing ??? just wondering thanks

Yes that is a bad thing. If your intake doesn't have a provision for the sensor, you need a different intake. That sensor is an essential part of how the engine runs.

The nitty gritty is is measures the amount (mass) of the air entering the engine. It uses this information and signals from other sensors like the throttle position sensor, ECT, etc etc, to determine how much fuel to inject at any specific time. If it hasn't turned the check engine light on yet, it will soon. The car will still run because it has the ability to estimate what conditions should be and run off of certain tables or parameters in case a sensor fails or just plain isn't there in your case..

What CAI do you have on there? Is it a homemade thing?

Yeah it doesn't even come with the provision for the MAF which is a bad thing. You do have one option though.

How does the diameter of the stock MAF tube compare to the diameter of the new tubing on the CAI? If its pretty close you could trim the stock tube, get another coupler and some other clamps and merely put the stock MAF tube in between the two pieces of the new intake. It would just make it a bit longer and place the filter somewhat behind the fog light in the front bumper where other CAIs put it. A relatively cheap fix.
