When I rewired the o2 sensors they started functioning again. In all this mess I think I have solved it. Idle was ruff sounding like an overly aggressive camshaft were in it always about to die. I performed a smoke test after rewireing failed to fix everything and I found a that the EGR gasket failed catastrophically . After this I pressurized the cooling system a found 3 hoses leaking. Replaced gasket and hoses and it started idling 90% better. The unmetered air was causing it to go into open loop fault which just exasperated the problem.

Well I had that in there somewhere and redid my post since it wandered too much.

Sorry.

Point was, O2 sensor circuits are low voltage, when cut they need best connection possible, I've cut them before, preferable to solder them to prevent later humid conditions messing up the connection by corrosion, it doesn't have to be visible corrosion to cause trouble there.

Yeah I didn't solder them but I did use heat shrink over the connectors to weather proof.

The downstream o2 does nothing but monitor the cat. If your getting wierd readings on it and your upstream your cat may be shot. your saying it runs like crap and isn't drivable also leads me this way.
By the way, stay away from bosch sensors, they are either crap right from the factory or burn up shortly. Definitely stay away from the bosch universals where you have to splice wires.
As was said, stick with oem.

The erratic readings came from th OL fault and bad wiring. But it's fixed now. The car only has what I would call the usual stumble. It's not perfect but it runs
