Biggest pet peeve.

Getting in the car and seeing that MyKey is activated. When I bought the car it came with only one key. Something I thought I could live with until I actually took my Focus on a long trip through TX where the speed limit is 70-75MPH. With the limit being set at 80MPH, it got annoying fast.

Calling around to different dealers, it seems the ballpark price is about 200$. How frustrating. Who knew this feature would end up being so expensive lol.

Used. If I had bought it new, I'd sure hope I got two keys.

Dude, that sucks. If I got a car that was limited to 80mph, I would be in major trouble haha! I can barely stay under that nowadays!

Well, you should have wheeled and dealed a second key into the price of the car.
If they told you AFTER you signed and they said 'too bad' I would have made the case a car comes with two keys.. One key ony is hiding defect.

take it to a car locksmith.

I bought a <$30 key from ebay and then the locksmith charged $85 to laser cut the key and program (includes the resetting of the keys). the key is chinese and the locksmith had to grind it thrice to make the tolerances work though. The locksmith was getting impatient until I convinced him to try it one more time lol.

I was in the same boat as you I thought I would get annoyed by that 80 mph, and that was the only key the dealer gave me. Ironically, i'm driving the car for mpg these days hence rarely pushing 75 most of my highway trips haha.

No defects. I gave my car before I bought a very clean look through both inside and out. Was a leased car. Only one owner before me. And the price I bought the car for, was way under KBB for all the options etc. A fully loaded SEL for under $16.4K? Not bad.

I was thinking about buying one of those keys from online, but wasn't sure if Ford would take it and cut it. I talked to multiple dealerships and they have said they are cut elsewhere then sent to them. Glad to know that someone else has bought one of the eBay keys and got it to work. But they're able to program the keys even if you only have one?

I'm in this car for the MPG too, but there is times where you need to pass and you're not able to lol.
