Is it really "thinner" it looks to be larger and bulkier in the photographs despite basically being just a chip and a key blade. That's in terms of both length, width, height and depth.

That difference is pretty marginal for the loss in functionality, but then again the normal pats keys were way oversized compared to the base steel rubber or plastic head keys in the past.
It is slightly thinner, although not shorter for the plastic end by enough to matter.

I bought a similar key on eBay for only $12:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/110939181988...84.m1439.l2649 I had trouble finding a locksmith who could cut the keys. The first two locksmiths who had the right machine didn't have anyone there who knew how to operate them. ("Can you come back on a weekday?" "No I can't"). The third guy wanted $50 to cut they key. I paid up because I was tired of driving around. You don't need to pay anyone to program the key. If you have two valid keys, you can program yourself using instructions in the owner's manual. Programming the eBay key worked for me on the first try. |

I live in eastern North Carolina and it took me about 20 phone calls to find a locksmith in Raleigh that could "laser cut" the key. They need an expensive machine. The only place I could find charged $25 for the key, $65 to cut the key, and then $20 if it needs programming. I have read that you can get it done less expensively. I had a blank from ebay ($15) but I bought one from the locksmith. If the ebay key didn't work I would have been out $65 because it wasn't their key.
