I put my car on the dyno today...

We had a gathering of the Mid-Atlantic Cobra Association (MACA) at our shop today, and after dynoing 10 cars, Rick told me to pull my car in...so I gladly did. I spun the Mustang Dyno to the tune of 154.6whp (10% off from a DynoJet; I'm told). I was about 300whp shy of the avg. car on the rollers today. Oh, and thats with a broken DSI! I have to grab my sheet from the printer..forgot to get it. I'll scan it and throw it on here monday night. At least I have a baseline...wish I could see what my car was stock. Oh, and it was also set for 2600# - I'm sure that played a part as the Mustang Dyno gives ROAD hp...not so much "wheel Hp"...it factors in load, and weight...I think I was about 200# shy of my actual weight..

Rick did say, maybe not the most powerful, but its by far one of the best handling cars he's ever seen (as far as a road car goes).

I have a video of my dyno run (sounds awesome - just minus the DSI switchover)...can anyone host it? Please?

Just make sure you use the exact same settings the next time you make a run. I pulled 122 whp on my tuner's mustang dyno. Just to show you how much variance the settings on the mustang can produce, I've seen SVT's make anywhere from 102 to 160 hp....

Did you hook up the tach wiring or did you let the dyno calculate speed from roller speed?

We had the tach up and running..simply attached the probe to #1 plug wire.

Rick said to add 10% to my number for the dyno jet number...not too shabby when you do the math! ;-)

172whp (156.4 + 10% [15.64] = 172.04)

So would 172 be my "SAE Corrected" number?

No, that wouldn't be your SAE corrected number. That is your Dynojet 'equivalent' number. However, don't read anything into that. SAE corrected numbers will reflect atmospheric conditions so as to give a level playing field, regardless of location.

In all honestly, I wouldn't read any more into those numbers than the fact that you have a baseline. NO normally aspirated SVT (that I'm aware of) has pulled those kinds of numbers with the exception of belacryf's car when he had the FS cams installed. If you really manage to put ~172 whp down, you're looking at about 190 crank hp...

But my dyno jet # would be 172?

Also, my power/ torque curve looks like a roller coaster!! Ugh! Time to go SCT!

HUGE spike in it around 3500 IIRC...I'll scan the pic and post it..

Well, that is what I mean. I personally don't think you'd see 172 whp on any accurately calibrated dyno. Maybe look around for a better dyno that you know has been calibrated. Or just make another run.

The run looks like a roller coaster partly because of tuning, but also because of the sampling rate a Mustang dyno uses and how little power the focus makes. Next time you make a run, ask the operator to use the 'smoothing function'.

BTW, for comparison I pulled 122 whp and Slickshoes posted that he pulled 126 whp on a Mustang dyno (before he went with the Vortech). In all reality, my vehicle weight was a little high, the operator shifted just before 7000 RPM and we didn't use the tach signal. We let the dyno calculate engine speed. Given these circumstances, this puts me in the 122-130 whp range...which is on par with Slicks. So, that is why I'm saying your numbers are kinda high.

Are you sure he did a loaded run? Maybe he did an inertia run?

I dunno exactly how he did it...my chart ends at 6750 and the power was climbing...the dyno is at the shop I work for, so I'll get on it again when I get my SCT tune..

So you pulled 172 whp with the mods you have.

Seems a little too high.

156 sounds more reasonable.

Peace...
