New exhaust question

Next weekend I am going to a local exhaust shop to have a system built for my car. I am going for 2 1/2 piping all the way through but I am unsure about the muffler. The guy I talked to said he has done many installs on Mazda 3's and Focuses, both with a dual out muffler and with a y pipe eliminating the rear muffler. I am yet to hear anything but the lunchbox delete on the new focus, so does anybody have any opinions on this? He said nobody has ever complained about going without a muffler as far as noise is concerned. I want it to sound good, and no muffler will run $100 cheaper for the complete install.
