02 ZX5- fuel pump?
Well it seems that I am having an issue with the Focus these days.
When going to start it in the morning I usually key-forward, prime the pump and then start the car. This morning I did the same, start the car it shut off. Key on to prime again, I dont hear the fuel pump. I did it 5-6 times then I heard the pump prime again and it finally started up and ran like normal. I havent been driving the car regularly as its on a "long term borrow" to my mom, as she drives it everyday, albeit short local trips. I last drove it a week ago and it didnt do anything strange, so it leads me to believe that this has started to happen in the last few days. However, during this mornings fiasco, the key in ignition chime was chiming a few times more than normal. My thoughts: Something going on with the anti-theft? Fuel Pump on its way out? Car has 232K KMs on it. Fuel Filter was done under 10K ago with a WIX filter. Its changed regularly (every 20K KMs) with either WIX or Motorcraft filters. Any thoughts and experiences are appreciated.

Check the small red security light above the radio next time you turn the key. If it blinks fast then then the transmitter in the key is not sending a signal to the computer.

I would assume that means time for new a key(s) if it happens again or more often?

It could have just been a weird situation, is it the original key? The problem would be the transponder in the key. You would have to get another one (60-100 bucks) and then get it programmed at ford. Do you have a spare key? It is much easier if you have a second key, you can program it yourself

Yeah if you only have one then the dealer would have to do it, or a locksmith. I have 2keys but only one has a transponder chip. I have the other one to unlock the doors if I get locked out
