Hey Chris, I am pretty much all set to rock-n-roll with OpenXC except for the hardware interface. I already have several Arduinos, but it looks like the chipKIT Max32 board is PIC based whereas Arduino has the Atmel chip. Is the extra performance really necessary or could I get by in the short-term with an Arduino Mega?

The translator app on my iPhone didn't have this language. I fail.

I'm excited about getting some new things on the dash display but this foreign language is above me.

Rosetta Stone doesn't even offer a program to learn it...

WackyWRZ is right - OpenXC is independent of any particular infotainment system since we go straight to the OBD-II port. That includes other OEMs (if they decide to release CAN message definitions or OpenXC firmwares) and really any Ford vehicle. The support vehicles list right now is basically everything we've been able to track down with the limited amoutn of resources we have, but if someone requests a specific Ford car I make it a priority to look it up and add at least tentative support to OpenXC.

gkirk, you're right about most of the data being available through the dashboard visually. The critical difference (and what we're so excited about) is that you can't write a software application that processes your dashboard visually, you need it in some programmatic form.

Sorry, I guess I watched to much Star Trek back in the day. In layman's terms it's all about performing an action on select inputs from the communication bus in the vehicle.
