After installing my dealer kit for speed control I found that it uses a lot of existing wires and connections in the car so it shouldn't be that hard to remove the speed control servo with cable and install it in any other ford focus as long as it came from the same motor correct?
The way I see it, all ford foci have the studs in the fire wall for the speed control servo, so if you went down to your local pick a part you could just:
Then you would just need a lot of wire and you could just wire everything up from their sources. I found a wiring diagram for a 2002 Ford Focus and traced all the connection and wires that go to the speed control servo but I want to make sure I get everything right. EDIT: REMOVED PICTURE AS IT WAS WIRED WRONG Last edited by jay-rod05; 01-22-2012 at 07:34 PM. Reason: Picture was wrong |

I went to pull-a-part today and found a couple foci that had cruise still on them so I pulled one off an SPI automatic.
I've got it all figured out (I think) except where to tap into the ignition power. Below is everything mocked up. Out of the 10 pins on the connector 8 are used (pins 2 and 8 are blank). If someone wants to verify that this can work please let me know and I'll make a full write up with pics on how to pull everything too. I know the pictures are huge but the images within the image are close ups that I shrank down to give a clearer picture of details. If you zoom in fully you'll be able to see all the little numbers on the connector pictures that were added into the image. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Well for the 2000 to 2004, it is not so simple
For cars that came w/o cruise then later added on that wire harness[s] are different from a car that came with cruise control from the factory. So if one had a non cruise control car [e.g. 2004] and found a junker 2004 that came with cruise from the factory, it is not so simple to switch wire harness easily. [Time solves anything I guess] The kits were only for 2000 to 2004 I don't know if 2005 was different [I suspect so] Then your ECU needs to be programmed to enable cruise control. You will be lucky indeed to find a Ford technician that knows this |

The ECU didn't come into play at all with the dealer add on kit and it. In fact the dealer add on kit just splices into one wire (PIN 28) which all that's only a vehicle speed sensor wire. Everything else this: Pins and their functions from Speed Control Servo: Pin 1: Signal out to gauge cluster to turn light on when cruise control is activatedThat's all there is to it really. So the PCM/ECU doesn't have to be programed at all. The only difference you would have to take into account is do I have a Zetec or SPI and what kind of clock spring connector do I have? |

Here's the wiring diagram that I found for the 2002 Ford Focus:
http://www.scribd.com/doc/25981642/Focus-Wires Go to page 238 and 239. That has the diagram for speed control on an automatic transmission. You don't have to be technical to understand what is going on in it. Just follow the leads off the speed control module (they're numbered to the left of the wires). |

PM me your E mail address...
At the very least I can scan the 2000 Focus cruise control wiring, maybe if i can find it, the 2004 wiring and if I can find it the 2005 wiring and you have the automatic You are probably right for the 2000-2004 cruise control as the electronic module was added for the upgrade kit, in that the ECu need not be programmed |

Hi
I sent you three Emails ALL with attachments If you are on dial up, I just sent enough data to tie your line up for the next three days What year Focus do you have? I wrongly thought that you had a 05 Focus that is why I sent you all the connector views |

Sweet! Thanks to mikeeshaq I can confirm that this method will work for all 2000-2007 Foci.
Still want to see why the modules are engine specific though, in the wiring there is nothing different. I think I'll go pull a Zetec module from one at the junk yard unless someone has one to donate? The only difference I saw when i was there was the cable connector to the throttle. But as far as the servo, it looked the same. I'll be working on the full write up over the next few days. I would like to get a little more info on the clock spring connector situation. That seems to be the only PIA thing someone would have to deal with. I'll post up another thread to get people to take pictures of theirs so we can get an idea what the difference is between years and engines. EDIT: I have an 02 focus, the 05 diagrams just confirmed that everything is the same :) |
