Got tired of the door chime, so I improvised!

There have been a couple of times that i have been working on my car but had to have the keys in the ignition with the door open, and have just about said to hell with it because of the stupid door chime. I looked to see if there was a way to shut it off like the belt chime, but couldn't find a way. I finally just unsoldered the speaker from the little control box under the dash, and called it a day. I forgot about the fact that the car also uses that bell to warn you of impending doom, which i found out the hard way when my brand new water pump seized up on monday, and engine overheated badly without me noticing for a short while.

So I did this! spliced a switch in line with the speaker so i can shut it off at will. No real groundbreaking achievement, but i figure some of you might hate that chime with the same burning passion as i do, so i figured i woud share. (Click third picture for video example)

Moved to "MK1 Interior mods & Upgrades". I never really minded the chime but some people are just annoyed by it. Also I noticed that you have the same type of deal on your keychain. I am talking about the thing made from parachute cord.

I put a switch on the drivers side door ajar wiring to turn the chime on and off but I really like your method. Nice work.

No, mine is yellow, but I might know the car that you have seen. I used to work as a Mini mechanic in Pasadena for about a year, and know a lot of the SoCal cars. What part of SoCal you from?

I'm from El Monte, I always see this clean white mini on the 10 freeway.

I worked on a couple of white mini's. one of them was a full v-tec conversion the guy spent like $40k on. Scary little car... Had a full race approved cage in it though.
