Hi Guys,
Bought a car from a dealer, 2 days later the batt died, now the sony head unit (which is the stock for the zetec) is asking me for the security code, my dealer is having no luck with it so i thought i would come back to the forums. Here in the US, we have no security code on radios.
Perhaps an English site would be suitable However for what I read on English sites is that the security code code be in the owner's manual or on a label inside the 'glove box' Failing that seeing how this vehicle is used, I was always under the impression that a dealer could come up with the security code given the VIN number. You need to go to another Ford dealer, evidently that service dept is 'brain dead' Something is not right! There are all sorts of instances where a car loses power and for them not to know how to retrieve a security code is very puzzling. |

Hi Mike
Thanks for your response, i actually just run down and confirmed there is no sticker in the glove box or book (they only gave me the log book) I have gone back to my dealer, whom' has forwarded my rego papers onto FORD Australia, (to show proof of ownership) and they will email me directly my 4 digit code. If i was to drive into a Ford dealer, this is a $44 AU dollar charge. As the car was only purchased 7 days ago, and broken by their in house road side assistance, i didn't really feel up for being out of pocket again |

Turns out this didn't work, because the car isnt on file...How is this my fault? i have now been advised by the dealer it is a $146 charge, to pull the radio forward get the serial off the back, and generate the code....

It's not your fault since their in house roadside assistance broke it.
They are giving you a "pluck you go away" price because they know that your in the right. in the US the UCC basically implies a 30 day warranty for all purchases not specifically states as as-is. I don't know what the UK does but I would guess there's a similar law and they are just wanting to stall you past that. Maybe you can pull your own radio using this guide: http://www.jamessimpson.co.uk/ford-f...stereo-removal and take a digital picture of it's serial number and they would do the right thing and get you the code Or you could always threaten to picket their dealership with a big-ass sign all weekend. I'm sure you will get plenty of potential customers of theirs stopping you on the sidewalk to ask about your story. |

This is all resolved now, if anyone else is searching through for this and thinks oh great, another thread that offers no help
Pull the plastic parts off very carefully, the code is visable on top of the head unit (Sony) along with the serial number, my dealer had the panels off / code / and panels back on in 3 and a half minutes, just be gentle with the plastic panels.....good to have music pumping again, and more importantly, be able to talk to my clients whilst still driving |
