Hmm ... Well, the guys that I know who ride on the RE-11s (older version) go through tires after about 6-7 events of about 4 runs each.

They are pretty good in the rain.

So, I would say, depending on how often you AutoX, at least a year as a daily plus AutoX-ing.

I don't see tire wear being that bad. Here we have local classes that cater to Street tires. For instance we have TxSP classes and TxS classes. T is for street tire. So, we see alot of street tire equipped cars.

Typically I see people pull a full year of events and DD duty.

The RE-11A is the first street tire I've ever bought so I don't have first hand experience. I had the Kumho MX on my Conquest years ago but I never anutocrossed them.

I've spent my time in an FMod for the last 2 years and a ESP Mustang for 4 years before that nationally.

Here is a Dunlop Star Spec with 13 events (with 2 sometimes 3 drivers) plus Fun Runs and 7,000 miles on them. Car was a TDS Mini Cooper S.

I pulled the trigger on RE-11a's. I'll post pics and let you know my general impressions of the tire when I get them (should be next week).

I haven't driven on anything this sticky before, so I'm pumped to see how they do. I've been riding on junk tires for almost a year and a half since I hit some road debris, but I've gone through and fixed just about everything and done the dreaded t-belt, so I'm ready to get beat up by Miatas and S2ks :P Hopefully I'll have rear camber arms in a month or so to really dial in the rear of my car, right now with bolts I have a -0.3 discrepancy.

Now its a guessing game to how much longer my stock clutch will go...

First impressions, of the ZII's, I was really slow on them...

I hadn't autox'd the focus since oct '12, last autox I did was in my subi. I'm not the smoothest driver either, and the ZII's are not forgiving. I was overdriving them, a lot.

So, I still think they are a fast tire, but it takes smooth driving to get the most out of them.

^^ Nice to know ... I am debating on getting those. But thinking about sticking to the RS3s for another set. And hopefully, buy a second set of wheels and get the Conti DWs for wetdays.

Hello from a newbie wandering into this sub-forum for the first time...

I'm seriously considering getting into autocross and track days this summer (with my dented up auto SPI sedan ). I want a set of dedicated tires - they won't be used at all outside of events. I can't imagine doing more than a few events this year, so tread life isn't a concern...

So with that context, my question is: extreme performance summer tires or semi-slicks? Or more specifically... Dunlop ZII or Toyo R888/Yokohama A048? Would semi-slicks be overkill for this newbie and his slow car? Hell, would dedicated tires be overkill? I mean, I could always just run DD all-seasons, lol...

P.S. I don't know how much those semi-slicks cost... if they'll be over $1000 then they're out of the question. I have a sinking feeling that they are, lol.

I think slicks are too much to handle for any new person. Sure they will feel great, but they will also accentuate your flaws as a newbie. Plus they are super expensive to start and for some one only using them for a few events.

The ZIIs are a great start. I would first, test your skill out with what you got for your first round and see where you stand. That way when you get the better tires, you will see where you improved and also see where you can improve your driving.

And once you feel you have outgrown these stickier street tires ... then look into slicks. Honestly, you will be more than happy with good sticky street tires.
