If it is drivable then take it to a few shops and get an estimate on the damage, it will help you check out the shop and how they handle there business. And they will give you a quote to give your insurance it will help you get a better repair because then they can tell the insurance how they want to fix it instead of the insurance telling them how to fix it(it will help you get a better first quote and then you don't have to fight them for a second check if the shop needs to do something different.

On the subject of getting rear ended and having your car totaled. My 2010 was totaled on Dec 12. I had stoped at a yellow light that turned red immediately after i stoped. Then i was rear ended by a surbban, and pushed all the way through a intersection that was 5 lanes plus a middle median and two side turn medians. Saddly to say my foci was royally screwed, But luckly i was completely fine out side of being sore; witch was a good thing because i was leaving to go on a cruise with my parents the next day. The best part i was partially at fault says the officer that respond because i made a stop form an unsafe speed at the light and didnt give her enough time to stop, yet i stoped like i do at every light(im pretty sure its because he new the lady and didn't want her to get the blame for it. It was in one of those "city's" inside a city where a small community decides they want to make a city board of there own.). So right now im out my $500 deductible plus tow, rental, storage of the car at the shop, and a couple small things that my insurance wont cover till they get hers to pay for it. Since if you total a car it wasn't a o i didn't quite have enough time to stop accident, its im a g idiot not paying attention accident. Lucky my insurance has told me it is a 95% chance that i will eventually get my money after they take it to court, they said it will just take a while for me to get my money. And now for the pictures.
Wow that must have been a hicktown...Regardless of how quickly you stopped the law says she's at fault for not leaving adequate stopping distance between the two of you. It's called "Assure Following Distance" and she is completely at fault.

I'm not sure how the officer could have justified that one, according to the law. I hope you have his badge # too for your insurance to have fun with.

Yep the officer was an idiot and and the best part was it happened on Dec 13 i went to the DPS office (city court, "police", fire, and water utility office; that is the size of a three bedroom house) on Dec 27 14 days later( i was out of town form the 14 to 26) and requested the accident report because i needed here information (I ask the officer if i could have it after the accident and he told me that i had to get it from the report that would be posted 72 hours later, and i couldnt get it from her because she was being treated by fire fighters for her "injuries" but when ask if she needed to go to the hospital she promptly replyed no.) I was told by the dispatcher/ clerk that i could only get it online but it was not posted yet. After auguring with her for a few minutes about how i needed it i asked to speak with there defense attorney(so that i could inform him that if he didnt have it to me by the end of the day he would be hearing from my lawyer) i was informed that they didnt have one in house and she would have to look up the correct one after waiting a few more minutes an officer cam out and asked if he could help us and he got it and gave me a speech about how the officer told me 72 hours and the card says 5-7 days but it is normally 14 days(with it was). To with my dad who had drooped me off replayed that is a long time to wait for the at party at faults information, the officer said that's what your insurance is for(what a jack ass). Now my insurance is trying to convince the other insurance that if they dont pay that we are taking them to court and they will loose so they might as well make it easy and cheaper for there selves. But it looks like it is going to court and i kind of hope it dose so me and my insurance can make a complete ass of him. Since as an engineering student i just couldnt help my self form doing a little equation on the accident. And only including rolling resistance and mass and velocity of our cars, not including factors like braking, the impact absolution of my car ect. With me starting at rest and traveling the distance that we did she had to be going 35mph when she hit me, the speed limit is 40mph. So for the factors unaccounted for she was going at least the speed limit coming to a red light. But most likely speeding when she hit me

Well my car was dropped off at the body shop this morning and my rental was picked up. Its a 4 day repair.

My rental is a 2012 VW Jetta S. Pretty nice car, the auto is sluggish and the steering has a weird ratio, you turn the wheel way more then im used to, to get it to turn. Otherwise I dig it
