Cam Timing Tools
Just wondering if anyone would know where you can purchase cam timing tools for setting the timing on my sons 2002 svt. I have the head in now getting bent valves fixed and reading it looks like you definitely need the tools to get the valve timing set properly. Went to the dealer but the parts guy could not find anything remotely close. Shop foreman says they have the tools but does not know where or if you can purchase them
Thank in advance. Gerry Calgary Alberta |

Central Florida Motorsports has a good tool set for keeping the cam's in place and getting the crank to top dead center:

I bought mine from Amazon for 20 bucks. OTC 6486 was the PN. This included the timing pin and bar.
I had initially made the mistake of asking the dealer parts department and the guy gave me a dirty look and told me they don't sell those to individuals. |

Is there a difference between the zetec and svt timing tool ? since heads are different the flat bar thickness could be different too ?

If it is the same as the ZETEC TDC procedure. I found it pretty easy and cheap to buy some flat bar stock that is 5mm thick. Then buy an M10 x 70mm full thread bolt and 2 nuts. Measure 63.4mm from the tip of the bolt and that is where you lock two nuts together. This would allow only 63.4mm of the threaded bolt inside the block. This will hold the crank at TDC.

I believe Gerry has the tools now. I was able to hook him up with an SVT intake cam so I hope things go well with the install!

No difference the tools will work for both SVT and Zetec. I personally have the OTC brand tools and have timed Zetec and SVT's probably a dozen times with them already and have paid for them selves many times over.
