May be joining the world of svt

I'm looking at a 2002 Focus svt with ~81k for 3200. First time driving, I pretty much fell in love. Gas is pretty touchy, I don't know if it's an aftermarket tune or the original ford. Cv boot was torn, misc switches not working(passenger window, cruise control) and the light was on for an o2 sensor. The owner claims to have fixed said problems, but im wanting some input from other owners.

I think it may be lowered, but I don't know what stock is. When riding the streets, some bumps just hit incredibly hard. Is this due to tightened suspension from lowering? Or improper damping? This will be a daily driver and I'll have my son with me sometimes as well, so I need it to be safe.

Also, either the clutch is very light and I couldn't feel my foot on it when not shifting or it seems like it's sticking. Sometimes when shifting out I thought I could hear it as I slowed down at a light or stop sign.

And what are stock rpms? It could e due to being a performance vehicle that they run kinda high; in 5th or 6th going 60, it's usually round 2300. But I'm driving it again today to verify.

Lots of questions, I know. I just want to find out what I'm getting into before I commit. You seem to have a great community here and I'd love to be a part of it :)

Stock suspension is tighter than regular ZX3. Not sure without pictures if it may have been lowered.
Clutch is light from factory, ask him what clutch is in there though. That year and those miles it's probably been replaced once. Either for the recall or to replace original
Check valve cover for leaks under the plastic Powered by SVT plug cover
Check the timing belt at that age/mileage
Getrag trans keeps the car in a higher RPM band but nothing that makes it impractical.

If you are seriously interested in this, I would strongly suggest taking this to an independent mechanic to have it thoroughly looked over.

It is probably just the stock struts/shocks worn out if anything. That is more than likely the case. But it's hard to tell without seeing pictures of said suspension. If the springs are another color other than black, it is more than likely to be an aftermarket. But some aftermarket springs could be black as well, so the only real way to tell is to look at one closely when the car is on a lift.

I do believe that is that way from the factory. But I am sure people that are more experienced with the SVT could help out a bit more here.

2300 is about normal RPM in 6th at that speed.

Find out if the timing belt had been replaced. If it hasn't, that will be something you would want to change since this motor is an interference motor, which means if the belt snaps, there goes your engine as well. At 81,000 miles, it would be a good idea to change it out as quick as possible if it hadn't been done already. While you are there, you will want to replace the water pump as well. Another thing to check would be the thermostat housing, which is notorious to leak on the Focus. And as someone said before, check the valve cover gasket as it seems to be a problem as well. Also, I am moving this thread to "Ford Focus & General Car Chat" since it has nothing to do with performance questions.
