AC compressor on during defrost?

I was looking at MPG tips on:

They say that some cars use the AC compressor for defrosting without illuminating the AC light. Does the Focus do this? It's winter here an I pretty much have defrost on the whole time. I'll turn it off once it's done if this is the case.

Hi, the manual states that the A/C doesn't come on in temps below 4c, besides if it did it really won't make a lot of difference to your mpg.

Hmm....most days it's below 40f in the morning, but higher then that in the afternoon. Will try to keep an eye on it and see what happens.

Been trying to improve my MPG while driving. Trying to be light on the throttle and maintain speeds better. But without highway driving I'm getting around 25.5 MPG.

Unplug the A/C compressor, if you're that concerned. Also, avoid driving into a headwind.
