I saw something useful on standardshift.com, when I was learning stick. It said shifts have have 3 qualities: fast, smooth, and low clutch wear. But you can only pick two. So you can give it a lot of gas and slip the clutch to get a fast and smooth shift, but the clutch won't be happy. Or you can drive it easy and rev match the shift so it is smooth and clutch is happy, but you'll have to wait for the revs to fall appropriately. Or just shift as fast as possible and bang through every gear all herky jerky.
