Any how, I was torn between the Ford Focus which I rented in Vegas for 5 days and the Mazda 3.

Well I ended up with the Focus because I like the styling of the car, but mainly, I liked how the car was really well thought out. Plus, I thought the inside of the Mazda 3 was kinda boring, and coming from a Japanese car, I didn't find anyhing spectacular with the Mazda 3. I didn't mind the outside smile, but mainly, I honestly believe the Focus was better car. Plus it was about $900 cheaper. In the end, I have never looked back.

But good on the OP for getting a Mazda 3, I think both are good cars because both are based on the C4 platform I believe.
Hi. Agree on Both are good cars. MK II Euro Focus, Mazda 3 and Volvo S40 and V50 shared the Ford C1 platform.

Glad you like your new car.

They make ice cream in many flavors, there is no "better" flavor only personal preferences.

You have the appropriate member name, possibly the only one better would be, Dick. Its easy to be a E thug, tough guy, you p u s s y.

But you are absolutely right, every one needs to remember when the econobox rattles and squeaks, that you bought the low end of a good brand. I was trying to be polite and wish them the best, if you move on to another brand, doesn't hurt my feelings. You don't need to sell me on their decision or vehicle they chose. I see you've been lurking here for a long time, way longer than I will ever own my current souped up econobox. I didn't buy it for budget reasons or the fact I couldn't be driving a mustang (especially since I just sold it) I bought it because I wanted it, and I don't give a fk what you think.

Nah, not lurking, actually building and helping people unlike you. Just bored as hell with the focus right now and moved on to faster things.
and could really give a crap what you and your fleet car looking pair in the driveway think. hope your whitetites don't end up with skidmarks on em, but then again that would give them some character at least.

A lot of people have had extensive problems with the MK3s. OP was one of them, so he moved on to another nice car. /thread

Nice ZXt!

My daughter has 145k on her 02 Protege, and it just lost the ac compressor. 1st major failure for that car.

Drove the 13 mazda3 and the focus several times. Only thing that stopped me from buying the 3 was the price difference. Since I bought this car strictly for a work commuter, price was a big issue. The best deal I got in the focus was $3k less out the door. If they were comparably priced i would have had a very difficult decision.

The 3 is noisier at speed. The interior isn't as fresh. I wasn't a huge fan of the front grille although they toned it down in later models. However, the Skyactiv powertrain was very impressive and the 3 is more of a driver's car, imo. And for 13 even the cheapest Skyactiv gets pushbutton start and auto climate control.

Glad you're happy with your new 3. Enjoy it!

When I bought the Focus last May .... that was about the difference as well. If it had been close ... I would have owned the 3 then.

With all the squeaks, rattles, buzzes, and clunks in the focus .... I'll take a little road noise any day. To be honest .... with the air leak that was in the focus drivers door .... the m3 is FAR quiter AFAIC.

I have no road noise issue with the M3 at all

Here's hopin' he'll always be smiling back at it. He deserves it after the grief the Focus and Ford put him through.

Though the SkyActiv parts are new for late 2012 models, at least the rest of the car is in its third year and should have any major bugs worked out.
