i had a mechanic friend install the PIE aux interface thing for me and thats how he did it. I was charging my phone out of it no problem about a month ago, but now im not sure.

so im probably going to go out tomorow and buy a voltmeter, so how do i check the red/yellow wire and the ground wire?

You COULD have a bad 'connection' in the cig lighter, meaning when a plug gets inserted it does not make good contact

Set meter to a scale that will read 12 Volts DC perhaps as a check you need to grab a 9 Volt battery and check that so at least you know how to use the voltmeter

ground the black meter lead onto a piece of the frame/body and scrape the surface a bit, now with the red meter lead poke around in back of the cig lighter and see if you don't get 12 Volts or something perhaps going right inside the cig lighter

If you get any indication then you have a bad cig lighter for what ever reason

ME? I have been chasing [invisible] electrons around for 35 years

Problem solved!!! I stole my girlfriends phone car charger, saw that it worked so I was confused. Found out the plug of the radar was a little worn, and for some reason it didn't fit in all the way. So I had to kind of play with it and almost like jam it in there. The phone charger fit like a glove with no issues.
