Custom exhaust vs Aftermarket for MK3?

Sorry guys if this has been asked before but I did some searching and couldn't find anything relevant.

I'm getting an exhaust this next week and after making some phone calls I've found a couple of shops that will do a custom 2.5'' exhaust for around 200 bucks.

I know there is a diff in mandrel bent vs press bent tubing and I'm assuming the custom exhaust is going to be aluminum piping vs stainless.

That being said is there a good chance there is going to be a power difference between the two? If so is it enough to warrant the extra 300 dollars for a name brand?

Just make sure it isn't crush bent.

The material either one will last a very long time. Unless you want your exhaust to outlive your car buy fancy 304ss or medical grade.

Either will work.

I've asked and everyone DOES use crush bent...but I'm sitting here now trying to figure out the power differences between crush and mandrel bent

just my 2cents but i've always gone with the custom route. It's far cheaper and i have always seen the same power gains from a custom unit compared to the aftermarket. the only difference to me is one is shinny and one is not haha

Your stock exhaust wasn't crush bent and if you have a tube that's 2.5 inch and there's a crush down to 1.5 inch you don't have a true full 2 5 inch exhaust anymore.

Pretty sure there are shops out there that can and have done 2.5" custom mandrel bent duals on our mk3's. I've taken pictures on the forum of only 3-4 cars that have done an acceptable job so when I'm ready I'll have images of what I'm expecting. I'd say anywhere from $350-$500. Rebeldevil's dual exhaust is also finished and going for $550 approx. and it's stainless steel. I'm just glad we have a multitude of choices now :-)

I mean I honestly don't have a big problem paying another couple of hundred bucks for the FSwerks or the RD if its worth it.

Wasn't sure if there was a noticeable enough HP gain that it would be worth the extra money though

There will definitely not be enough of a power difference to warrant another $300+ dollars. The best aftermarket systems have only put a little more than 7 HP, but the top dyno Mk3 charts have come from full-custom exhausts.

Exactly what I was wanting to hear.

All I'm doing to my Focus is bolt ons and a tune and I'm wanting to make sure I get the most out of my money on everything I'm doing lol
