The device which adds air to keep the engine from dying when it goes to idle is not set up for the rapid RPM drop.
It needs to learn what to do. Often the flaw in the system is die at sudden RPM drop. It is nothing to worry about. If you want it to stop, then keep doing it. gradually your car will figure out to stop it from happening. On the other hand, that devise may be failing.. but more likely my first comment. Like I said it is no big deal. really. IAC (idle air control valve is the name of your culprit) Last edited by Elizabeth; 12-31-2012 at 05:19 PM. |

I think that in addition to the above, I would be concerned about my charging system I know when my alternator was going bad my '03 did all kinds of weird things including stalling at random times it wasn't until the alt was completely shot and wasn't charging at all that I got a batt light. It's possible when you rev it up like that the engine is moving just enough to break a circuit somewhere in the charging system.

No, the battery light came on because engine died. Normal. There'd be something wrong if it didn't.

This is kind of weird. My car just did this on my way home. Same deal, revved to like 5k in second, shifted into third pushed to 60 mph and thew the clutch and was going to cost to down to 30. Fun speed zones just outside of town. Look down at the tach and it reads 0. Turn it back on and it idled funny for a minute. But once I got it into a gear it started to work normally.
