Oil leak between engine and transmission. (pics)

Hi there -

I have a 2013 Focus. I have changed the oil and filter on it since new.

Since the first oil change, I noticed oil between the trans and engine.

Please see pics.

Has anyone out there seen this? The surrounding bolts are all tight.

Is this a known issue, or do I need to go back to the dealer and have them make it worse?

Any help would be appreciated.

Nope. Transmission input shaft seal.

Yes. I've seen it plenty of times.

Yes, this is a known issue. Yes, you need to go back to the dealer. If your car is still under warranty, they will fix it. You'll be without your car for a day of more though as the transmission has to be removed from the vehicle to replace the input shaft seal and possibly the clutch as well.

If you have an automatic (DCT) transmission, there's a TSB on fixing trans seals if they leak.

Assuming that's the problem, they'll be checking out the clutches etc. as part of the MAJOR repair.

Yup - it's a warranty deal, so back to them you go.

P.S. - I'll move this to a MkIII section where you can find the TSB info..

Not really a matter of "if". More a matter of "when".....

Look for TSB 14-0047 "INTERMITTENT TRANSMISSION CLUTCH SHUDDER DPS6 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AND/OR TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAK"

Or you can just read the PM I sent you.

Funny how many of these there are for a problem that affects such a small percentage of Focus.

Oil leaks happen. Just ask GM and Chrysler.

Well, the input seal leaking on a dps6 drips through the clutch, and picks up clutch dust
