06 duratec starter cable

Was getting a random bat light, did some testing and found it was charging ok but that resistance was high on the positive cable. Removed alt and found cable connection melted and back of alt discolored. Got alt replaced and new cable ordered.

Apparently 06 is a changeover year on the cables as there are three different cables available for that year and had to run my vin# to find which one my car takes. Checked with multiple dealers/ part suppliers and no one can get me a replacement sooner than 4-5 days and its around 120 bucks. Threw a major fit at local dealer about the situation and now getting cables for 65 bucks but still have the wait.

Now trying to remove old cable from starter and running into a snag here. If iam looking at this right there are a couple of 13m nuts and a smaller one(maybe 8m) holding the cables to starter. Was trying a 1/4 rachet with short socket on the 13m nut and don't seem to have quite enough room to make this work. However i was still pretty frustrated at the time (just got back from dealer) so i decided to walk away for now.

Was wondering if anyone on here has changed the positive cable and/or the starter on a duratec and could give me any tips/ advice on getting that cable off the starter. Do i have to move the starter or use a flex head or what to get this thing off.

Thanks in advance, inflames

Best bet: Drop starter after disconnecting the Negative Battery Cable. This will give you full access to all cables on the starter. You may be able to get a cable "built" at a local auto electric shop. Good Luck.

Well got it pulled off(pita). Dropping the starter was easy and made getting the cable bolts lot simpler.

Am planning to see if i can find a place locally that can build me one although i have a new one on order. After finding out how long it takes the dealer to get one in, i want to have a spare one just in case.

Use to be several auto electric shops around but many have closed shop sadly. There are some custom stereo/audio places around that build/ install the big auto systems, may check with them.
