Rock + Windshield

Was just on my way home from the grocery store when I get a rock thrown square at my windshield. Some punk kid threw it. Guess who was right behind me? Yep, a police officer. Talk about right place right time.
The officer saw what happened and immediately jumped on the kid.
It was hilarious! The kid is lucky the officer was there or he would've been looking down the barrel of my glock 19 until LEOs arrived.

There is no obvious damage, but should I get it checked out anyway?

lol the important details of this story

if you have a buddy who does that kinda stuff who will look at it quick for free, or a beer, then do it. otherwise if there aren't chips, or you aren't somewhere where you'll see extreme temp changes in a matter of seconds, I wouldn't stress about it

i think stoning the kid is an appropriate, and apt, punishment.

i had a car way, way, way in front of me toss up a stone last spring and it just bounced along the road til it found my car. but safelite replaced it the next day and it's good as new.. they did a great job w/ no mess or anything and insurance covered it 100%

My insurance will cover a new windshield 100% but I don't think they will if there is no visible damage. Just don't want to hit a bump and crack the whole thing ya know?

Usually there will be at least a tiny white spec if there is damage. If you can't see anything or if it's just a white spec, leave it alone.

If it's a white spec with cracks under it, have it epoxy filled by windshield repair shop. This should be completely covered by insurance as well. Unless this repair is done in the drivers line of sight, you'll learn to live with it pretty quick. Most of the time it's very hard to see once repaired.

Having a windshield replaced unnecessarily is asking for a leak.

Im gonna disagree with you, Im on my 5th windshield in my 04. And I have NEVER had a leak. Always done by either Safelite or Diamond Auto Glass. The right person installing a windshield does it right the first time.

To the OP like everyone has said if there is no mark then dont worry about it. If there is get it epoxy filled to prevent a crack.
