2001 Frt. Wheel bearings

Asking a simple question here for a "done it, been there" machanic.? Is there a signal end with these press in bearings? The parts store sez install the black side of the bearing towards the ABS pick-up. Why is this nessasary? Are they doing something special with the "black" end? The other end of the bearing has a red retainer. These bearings are made by Timken. Thanks for a correct answer.

bearing indexing

There is a magnet inside the ring for the ABS sensor to read. You can varify this W/a metal/iron by touching the ring. Becareful removing the ABS sensor, it's removed to allow the bearing to be pressed out. Mine was ruined because it was siezed.

Thanks for the explaination

Thanks for the reply. I must have destroyed mine removing the bearing. Or what was left of it. Will have to double check the situation. I'll report back my findings.
