Remote Start Installation

Okay, so I am not a professional at wiring for cars at all and I am still debating on whether or not I am going to try this myself.

I ordered a Crimestopper RS4-G3 from amazon for pretty cheap and I just need some help on how to install this.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o01_s00_i00

First off, I have no idea where the ignition cables are and how to get to them, nor do I know where the lock and unlock cables are for the doors.

Second, I noticed that some people have a pats bypass installed into their car so where would I find one of these and how difficult of an install is that? (I've heard of just taping a transponder to the inside of the steering panel near the receiver, but I don't want to just have the pats on all the time.)

Third, does the 2002 Focus ZTS have a hood switch already inside? I know its crucial to ensure safety because no one wants kids accidentally pressing the remote start when you got your engine all opened up (although the battery should be unplugged whenever your working on your car?). If so, is it normally high, low, or ground.

Finally, I honestly have no idea how or when to use a relay and if I did, I probably would be screwed. (I'm sure I can just youtube it and find it relatively simply)

I couldn't find a full install for remote start on this focus so I decided to post here, if you know a thread that already has my answer, just post it and I'll quiet myself momentarily.

Will... because of your lack of knowledge, i would highly recommend having it professionally installed. If you start messing with wires and not know you can really cause a mess..

In the end I most likely will be doing this myself. I have no problem splicing and soldering cables, I just need help finding the right colors and where they are located? I appreciate your concern, but I am looking for information on helping me. I intend to put a full write up of this for the how to page so it will be relatively simple for other people.

you will need a pats bypass for the remote start. you will have to do some digging and find one that matches the system you would like to purchase.

Personally i commend you for wanting to try this. But you should be able to find a place locally to you that installs remote starts. They can do it quicker. Know what they are doing. and shouldnt cost much more than doing it yourself.

Ive done remote starts before on non-pats cars (easier to do) its much more involved that just splicing a few wires together.

I installed my own remote start/alarm, never having done one before, and it worked out great. I used this guide to install it, and it has all the wiring colours, and where they are located and cross referenced it with the ford wiring shop manual I have.

http://www.commandocaralarms.com/wir...focus/772.html

Just remember to test every wire with a multimeter before you hook it up.

For the transponder I used the DEI 1100F but I think it's discontinued but you should be able to find a comparable model. It only sends the code to the receiver when the remote start is active, and you don't have to leave your other key in your car. I believe it was only 4 wires that had to be spliced in by the ignition, but I think I had to look in the shop manual to figure out where they went and I don't have it handy right now.

Try contacting Travis at kcautsound.com. I purchased a Compustar remote start from him for my truck. He's a former Ford installer who went out on his own. When I got my system from him he has the option of having it prewired for your vehicle for $25. All I had to do was connect 8 wires in my vehicle and was ready to go. Unit came with very detailed (6-7 pages) instructions and pics. It was easily worth it in time saved. Even though you didn't buy from him, I would dial him up as I heard he is very willing to help anyone he can with a phone call.
