Motor Trend Comparo: Ti Hatch w/ Handling Pkg

The last comparo before the refresh early next year? The pit it against the Elantra GT, Forte5 (1.6L turbo), Mazda3 (2.5L) and Golf (1.8L turbo) - all hatches.

Needless to say it's the slowest of the group, but they continue to praise its handling (attributed in part to the summer tires) and its fuel economy (despite the summer tires).

It comes in dead last due to passenger space, ride quality (summer tires which none of the rest had), user friendliness (huh?) and the DCT. They also ding it for not being "recommended to families" but don't explain why or who does such recommending.

They end by saying "If this weren't a Big Test, you might be looking at a runner-up." More nonsensical gibberish. Face it, it only came in last because it's the oldest of the group.

The Good:

Best handling (with Titanium Handling Pkg)
Highest lateral acceleration (0.9g!)
Best fuel economy
Tied for best MT Figure 8 (26.8s)
Best braking

Middle Of The Road:

Cost of Ownership

The Bad:

Tied for slowest acceleration (but it's pitted against two turbos and a 2.5L)
The DCT (their least favorite tranny of the group, with "low-speed takeoff chatter", but a "great improvement over our first tango with" it.)

Whenever they test the DCT's with MFT they always come in last because that is the two main issues with the MK3 focus. Wheenver they get their hands on a SE sport package with the 5 speed manual they miraculously seem to love it and turn face. Ford should just start supplying the car review mags with a car that has all the best options (ti, 5 speed, handling package, and a MFT that isn't quirky).

Wow, 1 thread 3 weeks ago with a mere 19 posts was enough to make you nauseous? Weak constitution? I hear they have a pill for that.

Sorry to the rest of y'all for the double post.
