As for the timing belt... I had mine done by a mechanic just because it's my DD and I needed the car running asap. If you have time to spare and are mechanically inclined, you could do it yourself. There's a few write ups somewhere

I mean I know it's possible to do in a drive way, I just don't want to risk messing anything up. My experience of working on cars includes changing oil, spark plugs, and wiring subwoofers

If bearings aren't making any noises and the wheels don't wobble then they are probably fine.
