I also traded in a Mustang (05 convertible) for this Focus.
No problems with the DCT so far, and hope I don't have any - but while I like a manual, this car was bought for commuting in comfort to get my off the motorcycle. |

It would be interesting to have the top 10 tested with a few years and 30-40k miles later and see where they stack up. Nearly all cars are solid new but put some miles on them and the reality is usually exposed.

I went to the LA Auto Show today and test drove a number of cars. The Focus may have some issues, but as far as the driving experience goes, it really is a wonderful car.
I drove the new 2013 Sentra and while it will probably be reliable, it was horrendously dreary. Crappy driving position, cheap plastics, and an interior ambience straight out of 2001. I was so glad to get back into my Focus. |

People hate the DCT because of it's solid percentage of owners that are having issues with it plus I haven't seen a car rag say anything nice about it either. Ford has it's issues with it but it's not the majority of the DCTs but it is having a rep for being problematic.

I think people hate DCT because they always drove automatics. Those of us who drove manuals, know how to handle DCT. Yes, there are some problems with the DCT but nothing that cannot be solved, though people are infuriated more on their dealerships who are not willing/able to fix them. I had myself problems with my DCT after an update and I know how frustrating is to have it lurching and not behaving as it should. I changed the dealer and went to a shop who had people trained to solve DCT problems and everything was fixed.
I love my Focus and even though it has its quirks, it is a rock solid car and I am glad it won this.

same here.. I exclusively drove stick before buying a DCT Focus.. It still vaguely feels and behaves like a manual transmission, which is why I don't mind it so much. If you only drove slushboxes before, I could understand why you'd have a DCT... it just behaves differently than what you're used to. I'd buy another DCT car, but I do miss shifting for sure.

It's design is like a manual but an automatic will always be an automatic to me if it shifts on it's own.
Ford's DCT is having growing pains and that can't be denied and hopefully the kinks will be worked out sooner than later.
