VIDEO: Replace Power Outlet with Stock Looking USB with AUX Input Jack

The only reason I use my 12v power outlet is for a cell phone charger for my iPhone or iPad and I didn't like having a charger sticking out all the time to do so. I scoured the Internet for a solution and finally came across a picture of the interior of the Nissan Juke which has a cylindrical shaped usb/aux jack. I did some searching, found the part number, and then purchased it from my local Nissan dealer. Installation was pretty easy, you will need to know how to solder though.

Attention: I don't have a ton of pictures of this so you will need to have a basic understanding of soldering and common sense to do this.

You'll need:

• Nissan Juke USB/AUX Jack - Part No: 28023-BH00A
• 3.5 mm Male Audio cable
• Spare USB cable (any cable will do, you only need the male end that you'd plug into a computer)
• Hot Glue Gun
• Soldering Iron
• Solder
• Flat Head Screw Driver
• Din Removal Tools
• 1/4" Hex bolt remover (Maybe different size?)

How to wire Nissan USB/AUX jack to standard cables:

1. Remove outside clip (gray part) from jack. There are 4 little clips, just pry them up, you will not be using this part again so if you break a clip forget about it.

2. Slide out the electronics board.

3. Cut your cables to desired length and strip about 3 or 4 mm to copper for soldering.

4. Solder the wires:





5. IMPORTANT: WIRES CANNOT EXTEND OUTSIDE OF PCB, THEY WILL NOT FIT IN PLASTIC HOUSING. PICTURE HAS WIRES ROUTED WRONG AS THEY EXTEND OUTSIDE SURFACE AREA OF PCB.

Use hot glue to insulate USB wires from touching other terminals.

6. Test that everything is working correctly.

7. If everything is working correctly, hot glue PCB into plastic housing.

8. Wrap with electrical tape to protect exposed PCB and wires.



How to put jack in car:

1. Remove change/ash tray

2. Remove radio

3. Unplug orange power connector from 12v power outlet

4. Locate 4 screws (hex heads) where radio sits, unscrew the 4 screws.

5. The bezel will now be loose and you can just pull out to remove it from the dash. It will only come out a few inches before getting caught on the AC controls, that's fine you only need a few inches to work with.

6. There are two spring like clips that hold the power outlet in. Press those in and push the power outlet out. You may need a screw driver or a second person to help. It shouldn't be that hard to get out. Whatever you do don't pry with tools from the outside (what you see from cabin).

7. Insert your newly modified Nissan USB/AUX jack.

8. Level it as best you can then hit the inside rim with some hot glue. Pull inward while you glue so it is flush with the outside. Wait 15-20 seconds for the glue to harden and you're done!

9. Clip the bezel back into place.

10. Screw in your 4 screws that hold the bezel in place.

11. Wire your 3.5mm and USB power to whatever you wanted it to, replace your radio and change tray.

12. Enjoy.

I paid $28 from my Nissan dealer down the street. Online it's $13 from Nissan Parts Zone but you have to add in shipping and time waited:

The part is very very rare, at the time of me getting in December only 8 or 9 units were available in the whole USA. My dealer didn't have it so they did a dealer to dealer parts transfer but it came in only 2 business days.

The AUX and USB jack are fully functional. It basically just acts as an extension cable to whatever you want to use it with.

I was just wondering if you could explain how to wire the usb wire to the PCB. also i could not read the label for the un-insulated wire in the second pic. I am just a little bit confused

So does this allow an iPhone to connect to your radio, or simply provide USB power? I have a 2012 with the base radio, and am trying to find a way to connect my iPhone to it and run the sound through the speakers.

The uninsulated wire is the USB cable's shield ground.

On my setup all it does is provide USB power. The way it's wired it provides full USB connectivity, If I plugged in the male end into a computer and an iPod cable into the female port then I could do full data transfer.

If your head unit has the ability to connect an iPhone via USB cable, then you should have no issue doing so via this connector.
